ART WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN

At the “Kostis Palamas” Culture and Olympic Center, there is an Art Workshop open for the expression and imagination of our young friends. As part of visual arts engagement and creation, programs in Painting and other Visual Arts Activities have been developed for elementary and middle school children.

Specifically, the Painting program includes student creation and expression through various materials (colored pencils, markers, oil pastels, tempera paints), while through various Visual Arts Activities (art games, group collages, small crafts, video-presentations), visual creativity and perception are nurtured through teamwork and solidarity.

The classes are small (4-5 students) and are organized based on age to ensure smooth interaction and cooperation between students. All lessons take place in a specially designed space where materials for the children’s creations are provided. Each class lasts one and a half hours (90 minutes). The weekly schedule is arranged from one to two times per week, by appointment.

PAINTING FOR ADULTS

In our Visual Arts workshop, we have created classes for adults aimed at aspiring artists of all ages who wish to develop their skills through artistic expression. It is a specially designed space with the necessary tools (easels, materials, composition objects) where proper training is offered to all those who love Painting and various visual techniques (color, drawing, collage, group creations, and general art projects).

Drawing

Introduction to the principles of drawing, measurements, proportions, tonal gradations, using various materials like pencil, graphite, and charcoal, through the depiction of object compositions/still lifes.

Painting

Theory of color through exercises and practice on painting still life compositions, copying from images and famous works of art, and free themes using various materials (acrylics, watercolors, etc.).

Group Creations

Visual collaboration is cultivated through any form of artistic expression (painting, collage, etc.) as part of a larger visual art project.

Theory

A reference to Art Theory and History, based on bibliographic sources, for the historical evolution of various art movements, with the option to view and watch video documentaries and presentations.

All classes are small (3-4 students) for smoother and more enjoyable sessions, allowing for a more pleasant and creative artistic expression. Each group has two lessons per week, with each lesson lasting two hours.

FREESTYLE DRAWING

Candidates practice depicting compositions of objects, using pencil on paper sized 50×70 cm. For successful evaluation, they are taught:

  • The harmonious placement of the subject and its composition on the design surface
  • The precise proportions and angles of the subject
  • The tonal gradations of the subject
  • The overall presentation and refinement of the subject

ICONOGRAPHY

An Iconography Workshop has been created at our space for both adults and children aged 12 and above. The class is available for all levels and is kept small so that each student can progress at their own pace and skill level. Guidance and supervision are provided by a graduate teacher from the School of Fine Arts, specializing in Byzantine Iconography.

  • Drawing (portraiture, human proportions, and ratios)
  • Theory and History of Icons
  • Color study
  • Study of the human face
  • Preparation of portable icons, gilding
