Event-Tribute to Costis Palamas at the Greek Orthodox Community of Holy Trinity in Bargaintown, NJ
A great event took place after the Mass at the Greek Orthodox Community of Holy Trinity in Bargaintown, NJ, focusing on our National Poet, Costis Palamas, and his contribution to the Rise of the Nation and the Olympic Idea.
The event was organized by the community’s priestly superior, Fr. George Liakopoulos, in collaboration with the Board of Directors. The honorary speaker was Professor Theodoros Mallias, who traveled to the United States as a guest of the distinguished physician, Dr. George Dendrinos.
Professor Mallias’ presentation was very informative and educational, accompanied by slides, narratives and photographs. The room was packed, with participants having the opportunity to learn about the life and work of Costis Palamas, recognizing his significant contribution to Greek culture and our national identity.
The event was extremely well-timed, as Greeks everywhere prepare to celebrate the 204th anniversary of Greek Independence. Knowledge and honour to the heroes and spiritual leaders of our nation are an integral part of preserving our historical memory and national heritage.
Professor Mallias continues his tour in the United States, with his next stops in Astoria and Los Angeles, where he will present again the work of Kostis Palamas. An important culmination of his research work is the publication of a luxurious book documenting in detail the life, work and contribution of our National Poet in relation to the Olympic Idea, since he wrote the Hymn of Olympism.
The event at Agia Triada was a hymn to the Greek word and our historical continuity, strengthening the ambition and national pride of our expatriates.
