FOLLOWING THE RECOGNITION BY UNESCO OF THE WORLD GREEK LANGUAGE DAY, IT IS NOW THE TURN OF THE OLYMPIC ANTHEM OF COMSTIS PALAMAS AS WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE
On the same prophetic day of the presentation of the lecture of Professor Theodoros Mallias in Los Angeles, America, on the contribution of Olympism to the promotion of the Olympic ideals and the cultivation of Excellence for the formation of Plato’s ideal citizen “good and kind”, i.e. brave and at the same time noble and worthy, the Hellenism of America celebrates the unanimous decision of the Executive Council of UNESCO to declare February 9th of each year as International Greek Language Day.
An international recognition of the timelessness, the universality and contribution of our language to the cultural heritage of humanity. A day of joy and pride.
This event thrilled and moved the Greek community and Presidents of Organizations who attended the April 13th event at the Center for Modern Greek Studies at Loyola University, Marymount University, California for the designation by UNESCO of the Olympic Anthem as a World Heritage Site and were given their blessing by the President of the Hellenic Library in Los Angeles, Philippa Treveza to Mr. Theodore Mallias, who is implementing the recognition internationally, with the following optimistic words.
“Dear Theodore,
when you believe you are entitled to something, there will come a time
when it will be recognized…. done with the language….
to be done with the Olympic Anthem…..
I am beside you in your “fair and true” struggle……
With deepest appreciation”
Philip Trevezas
